The 1901 Scotland census says he was born in Halkirk, Caithness in 1864. It states his address as Rowan Cottage, Lairg, Sutherland. It states his occupation as (journeyman) Sharmsker, a word that escapes online dictionaries. Ancestry.com indicates he is in the Faraday and Fraser family trees.

Grandpa Ross worked all his life as a shoemaker in northern Scotland.

He apprenticed at the well known firm Sinclair's of Westerdale. After a time there he spent 37 years as foreman for  Mr. Davidson in Lairg starting 42 years before his death.

His recreational activities included hammer & stone, lawn bowling with the Lairg Bowling Club, rifle club and card playing of draughts and whist.

He is buried at Lairg Cemetary. He died at Woodside Cottage  Monday the 3rd. The month and year were not included in the newspaper clipping.
