Inside the Cottage
The original 24' x 30' cottage started life in 1967. I think it was built from a pre-fabricated cottage kit. It is solid and well built with full 8' ceilings throughout. I am the second owner. I have owned it since 1979 and have drastically improved its functionality since 1999 by adding two 100 square foot additions, upgrading windows and insulation and winterizing the water system.

When you arrive by car you walk down the path past the barbecue and enter the 100 square foot purpose built entry room addition through one of the two angled entry doors. The other entry door opens to the dock and shed. The entry room provides tons of storage space with built in oversize shelving, a built in closet and 4 wall hung IKEA cabinets. Lots of room for shoes and boots under the closet and cabinets. You pass a drinks fridge then open the door to the main cottage.

The kitchen is well equipped and provides exceptional cupboard and counter space. It has a full size stove/oven, 14 cu. ft. frost free fridge/freezer, microwave, electric kettle, coffee maker, toaster and hand mixer. There is no dishwasher and no laundry facilities. There is a propane barbecue with side burner and a one-burner butane campstove for cooking in case of a power failure.

Dining table has chairs for six. Six folding chairs are also available.

The living room has a comfortable sectional couch facing a modern airtight wood burning fireplace and 32" flat screen TV with DVD player. Shaw Direct satellite signal provides a wide variety of television and music channels.
An AM/FM Stereo Sound System features bluetooth and it takes audio inputs from the satellite dish and DVD player. Click here for a surprising list of AM and FM Radio Stations from pop to rock, classical to jazz.
The Master Bedroom has a Queen bed, dresser and built in closet.

The Guest Bedroom has a double bed, dresser and built in closet.

The third bedroom has bunk beds, built in closet, a small desk and 15" flat screen TV. There is a Queen mattress rolled up under the bunk beds that can be unrolled onto the floor.

There is a 3 piece bathroom with comfortable corner shower stall. Water use needs to be minimized as the septic system uses holding tanks only. There is no septic bed (see NOTE below).

The utility room provides a direct entrance to the bathroom from outside. It contains the water system and 3 IKEA wall hung storage cabinets. There is an outdoor clothes line and two inside clothes lines across the utility room.

The water system comprises a water pump, hot water tank and pressure tank. Water is pumped from the lake via a 1" heavy duty water line inside 4 " Big-O. The line is electrically heated to keep it operational all winter if desired. Water lines are surface mounted for ease of troubleshooting.

NOTE: All used water drains into two 1,000 gallon (4,500 liter) concrete tanks that are buried to the west of the cottage. When full these tanks are emptied by a honey wagon (septic truck). Monitoring since installation in 1999 indicates pump outs are required after 500 to 800 people days of use depending on the conservation awareness of the occupants.

Cell phone reception is available from major providers such as Telus/Koodo, Bell and Rogers. Reception reliability has improved over time. Using cell phones to set up wifi hotspots works well.
